Where do these exchange rates come from?

All rates are the official mid-day reference rates published by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), Nepal's central bank. NRB releases rates for each working day, typically by midday Nepal Standard Time.

Why do some currencies show rates per 100 or per 10 units?

NRB quotes rates in terms of how much NPR you receive for the stated unit of foreign currency. For currencies with small per-unit values — Indian Rupee (INR) and South Korean Won (KRW) — NRB quotes per 100 units. For Japanese Yen (JPY), it quotes per 10 units. All other currencies are quoted per 1 unit. The unit is shown exactly as NRB publishes it and is never converted.

Is this the rate I will get at my bank or remittance service?

No. The NRB rate is an official reference rate, not a transaction rate. Commercial banks, money exchangers, and remittance services set their own rates and add their own spreads. Your actual exchange rate will differ from the NRB published rate.

How often are these rates updated?

NRB publishes rates on working days only. This page refreshes its data every 15 minutes. On weekends and public holidays, the displayed rate reflects the most recent working-day rate published by NRB.
