Frequently Asked Questions
How is salary tax calculated in Nepal?
Nepal uses a progressive slab system — each rate applies only to the portion of income within its band, not the whole income. Start from total annual income (monthly salary × months plus any bonus), subtract eligible deductions, and apply slab rates to the remainder.
What are the income tax slabs for FY 2082/83?
FY 2082/83 uses six progressive bands. Single filer: first NPR 500,000 at 1% (Social Security Tax); next NPR 200,000 at 10%; next NPR 300,000 at 20%; next NPR 1,000,000 at 30%; next NPR 3,000,000 at 36%; above NPR 5,000,000 at 39%. Couple (married) filer: first NPR 600,000 at 1% (Social Security Tax); next NPR 200,000 at 10%; next NPR 300,000 at 20%; next NPR 900,000 at 30%; next NPR 3,000,000 at 36%; above NPR 5,000,000 at 39%. Each rate applies only to the income within that band.
What changed in FY 2083/84 compared to FY 2082/83?
Finance Act 2083 was enacted on 14 July 2026 and took effect from 1 Shrawan 2083 (17 July 2026). FY 2083/84 uses five unified bands for both single and couple filers: first NPR 1,000,000 at 1% (Social Security Tax); next NPR 500,000 at 10%; next NPR 1,000,000 at 20%; next NPR 1,500,000 at 27%; above NPR 4,000,000 at 29%. Compared with FY 2082/83, the top rate dropped from 39% to 29%, the first band widened from NPR 500,000 to NPR 1,000,000, and the separate couple schedule was removed.
What deductions reduce my taxable income?
Several items reduce taxable income before slab rates apply: life insurance premium up to NPR 40,000; health/medical insurance premium up to NPR 20,000; private building insurance premium up to NPR 10,000; children's education — 25% of annual tuition fee paid or NPR 25,000, whichever is lower; SSF, EPF, and CIT contributions combined are capped at the lower of NPR 500,000 or one-third of annual assessable income; remote area allowance (NPR 50,000 / 40,000 / 30,000 / 20,000 / 10,000 for categories A through E). Female taxpayers with income solely from employment in Nepal receive a 10% rebate on the computed tax. These figures are for FY 2083/84 — in FY 2082/83 the building insurance cap was NPR 5,000 and the children's education deduction did not exist.
What is the SSF waiver?
If you contribute to the Social Security Fund, the 1% social security tax on the first slab is waived, so the contribution both lowers taxable income and removes that first-band charge. The deduction (which reduces taxable income, subject to the combined SSF+EPF+CIT cap) and the Band 1 waiver are two independent benefits — a salaried SSF contributor should apply both.
Is this calculator a substitute for professional tax advice?
No — it's an estimation tool. For filing, payroll, or your specific situation, consult a qualified tax professional, as rules change with each Finance Act.
What is my take-home pay (net salary) after tax in Nepal?
Your take-home pay is your gross salary minus income tax and any applicable SSF/EPF contributions. Enter your monthly salary above and the calculator instantly shows your net pay after all deductions under the current FY 2083/84 rates — plus how much you save compared with the previous FY 2082/83 rates — so you can see exactly how much you keep each month.
How do progressive tax brackets (slabs) work in Nepal?
Nepal uses a progressive slab system: each rate only applies to the income within that band, not to your entire salary. For FY 2082/83 (single filer), the first NPR 500,000 is taxed at 1%, the next NPR 200,000 at 10%, and so on up to 39% above NPR 5,000,000. This means earning more always increases your take-home pay — a higher bracket never reduces your net income. The calculator applies each bracket correctly and shows a full slab-by-slab breakdown.
What does this Nepal salary tax calculator actually calculate?
This salary tax calculator converts your monthly salary and any bonus into total annual assessable income, subtracts eligible deductions, then applies Nepal's progressive slab rates band by band — 1% (Social Security Tax), 10%, 20%, 30%, 36%, and 39% for FY 2082/83. It returns your total income tax, a full slab-by-slab breakdown, and your net take-home pay for both single and couple filing status.

What is the current tax slab in Nepal?
For FY 2083/84, Nepal's current tax slab has five unified bands that apply to both single and couple filers: NPR 0–1,000,000 at 1% (Social Security Tax), 1,000,000–1,500,000 at 10%, 1,500,000–2,500,000 at 20%, 2,500,000–4,000,000 at 27%, above 4,000,000 at 29%. Each rate applies only to the income within that band, not the whole salary. The previous FY 2082/83 slab had six bands with a top rate of 39% and separate single and couple schedules.
